There’s an everlasting debate on whether or not condos should be inspected by a professional before a real-estate transaction. People assume that condos represent a “care free” lifestyle since someone else cuts the grass and shovels the snow. What these people doesn’t realize is, almost everything that can go wrong in a house, can go wrong in a condo. Inspections are a must with any transaction, regardless the type.
Condo corporations are a great help to their tenants, maintenance wise. However, homeowners are still responsible for the inside of their living space. The unfortunate truth here is, almost every system found inside a single family home is found inside a condo as well. If a home inspector is able to pine-point an electrical circuits posing fire threats inside a home, he’s going to be able to do it in a condo as well.
Coming from someone who’s afraid of heights, I’d rather be aware of poor electrical work, before buying a condo and having to Tarzan my ass down, from one balcony to another. That may seem a little exaggerated, but you get the point. Home inspectors are hired to evaluate as best as possible whether the property is in good condition or not. Whether it’s a single-family home, townhouse or a condo, he/she will be in a position to best advise you on what you should do. Even if it’s not always going to be what you want to hear, the inspector will tell you what you need to hear. At the end of the day, it’s your call to make. We’re just telling you what you need to hear 😉
